Monaco has acquired the domain name Crypto.com.

Before the recent acquisition the domain was owned by Matt Blaze, an associate professor at the University of Pennsylvania since 1993 when he first registered it.

Monaco, a company who’s mission according to their whitepaper is, “Powering the future of money, today” and who’s vision is to “put cryptocurrency in every wallet”, has purchased the highly sought after domain name Crypto.com.

The core values of Monaco (Now MCO / Crypto.com) stated in their whitepaper are to:

Think Clearly, Be Resourceful, Stay Determined, Dream Big & Be Decisive, Act as Owners, Remain Humble.

Recently Monaco has rebranded or renamed their company as MCO which is the name of their cryptocurrency.

In their whitepaper it states part of the MCO platform strategy as being a Visa Card + Wallet App.

MCO Platform Strategy

Less than three months ago DNJournal “The Domain Industry News Magazine” wrote up a story titled, Crypto.com owner says stop calling! No interest in Multi-Million dollar offers and no fan of cryptocurrencies. It looks like Monaco, a company who’s trying to make big moves in the crypto space with a Visa Card + Wallet App, changed all of that with the right offer.

Matt Blaze has not yet commented on the domain acquistion. According to TechCrunch, Monaco’s CEO Kris Marszalek said, “If it was only about money he’d have sold it a long time ago,” suggesting Blaze decided that Monaco was the right home for the name he has owned since registering it in 1993. This leads many to believe that it may indicate that Blaze had gotten some equity as well as cash in the deal.
Many people including myself are still speculating over the price paid for this premium domain name as no definitive sales price has been disclosed as of yet.
Either way, this deal seems like a win-win for both the buyer and the seller. Monaco now owns possibly one of the most valuable domain names in the CryptoSphere and Matt Blaze I would speculate has around a high 7 figures if not 8 figures more in his bank account, or I mean crypto wallet… or both.. depending on the details of the payment made by Monaco.
How much do you believe Monaco paid Matt Blaze for Crypto.com? Do you believe it was an all cash deal, all crypto deal, or a mix of cash and crypto? Feel free to post your opinion below.
